Boise, ID‚ December 22, 2008‚ American Fiber Systems (AFS) and the City of Boise announced today that Boise Airport (BOI) will utilize‚ optical fiber network backbone to support the airport consolidated systems network and wireless platform. The new partnership results in added network security for the airport parking, flight information and baggage systems, and faster connection speeds for Internet users within the airport terminal.
By connecting to the AFS network, Boise Airport increases its previous bandwidth capacity to an Ethernet solution, which means faster, free property-wide wireless access for airport businesses, travelers and visitors. The move also makes AFS the key driver in parking system, parking control, flight information and baggage system functionality. The network project will be complete by April 2009.
“In today economic situation, smart businesses like the City of Boise and Boise Airport are realizing they can optimize their networks and reduce costs while still upgrading their bandwidth connection speeds and improving their reliability, said Mike DAngelo, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, American Fiber Systems. “AFS will be supporting an increasing number of these types of applications in the greater Boise area in 2009.
This is the first major project shared by the City of Boise and Boise Airport; the AFS integration allows the IT departments of both entities to operate as a consolidated unit, which provides greater operating efficiencies.
